Cute little cham news

FisherCham20 Jan 15, 2004 12:09 AM

I couldn't resist posting this... lol This evening I took bender outside to bask in the sun a bit. Usually he just chills out by the window for a bit but thought maybe more direct might be good too. Anyway, while out there, he was chilling out on my hand (didn't want to go into his temp cage) when he licked my hand! I've seen him do it to some of the vines. I was just tickled. Kissed by a chameleon!

p.s. Is there any special meaning behind them licking? Sign of anything bad?

Actually, chams often taste test branches and unfamiliar territory to find out if other chams have passed that way...and rubbed their vents on it in passing or pooping! Sorry he probably wasn't kissing you, he was sampling something very different LOL! Funny anyway.

awww....let him think it was a kiss

that did cross my mind...I know that other lizards (my anoles, geckos and others I have owned) do it frequently. I just had never seen Luna do it - but then again she KNOWS no one has been climbing on those branches Wasn't sure if the sticky tongue changed it at all...but I suppose they don't always have to make it sticky.

I just read lele's post, where she said that she supposes "they don't always have to make it sticky" (sorry if that wasn't a exact quote lele!)
At the risk of sounding like a total dolt...is that right?
I honestly just assumed that a chameleons tongue was always sticky.
Wow...chameleons...something new learned about them everyday.

uh...gee I hope I didn't mess up there! I am pretty sure that they have sticky saliva and the motion you see just before they shoot is, in part, the porcess of coating the tongue...experts. please weigh in!

Its cool to hear that your chameleon licked your hand. I haven't heard of a chameleon licking an owners hand before but it is common with a lot of other lizards like leopard geckos. Everytime I pick up my leopard geckos they lick my hand to get my scent and see who I am. My bearded dragons do this too and I have seen skinks and all kinds of snakes do this. Consider yourself lucky that your chameleon did it.

that's funny...but i don't think there's anything wrong with occasionally getting drunk and waking up next to a hobbit.
