Hey dsgnGrl ...

I saw your set-up shot in the photo gallery. I think it's really great, especially the basking area because it saves so much room underneath. I was looking around for cork bark for my tank but I can't seem to find any for cheaper than 10 bucks (which I think is ridiculous for BARK). Where did you get yours and about how much did you pay??

I got mine at my local pet store, they had it for 6 dollars a pound, and there is a lot of cork bark in a pound. I don't use it anymore, I got one of those floating turtle islands. They are a pain since they dont stay suctioned to the wall, but the cork bark gets soggy after a few months, and stops floating well. There is a new turtle ramp out which I may buy, that has little poles that attach to the back of the tank, and the island part can float up and down on the poles so it is always at water level. I haven't bought it yet because it is $30 at my petstore.

Yeah those basking spots can be a pain. As for the cork bark, I am planning on getting a 1 foot squared piece and breaking it into 2 portions, one about 3/4 the size of the other. Then I'm going to wedge the bigger piece against the walls of the inside of my tank (above the water line), and wedge the smaller piece at an angle into the water so the turtles can climb up onto the ledge. I figure if the small piece of cork gets soggy from the water, I can easily replace it. This would work in an ideal world, but who knows. Of course, if your tank is really big it would be harder to find a piece of cork that big.

If your pet store is selling a turtle island, you can surely get it online cheaper. Try Big Als Online. The filter I bought at my local petstore for 45 is 18online...big difference even with shipping. I bought a turtle dock there and the turtles and I really like it.
