Barrs misting kit

I was wondering if anyone has used the basic misting kit with the hook-up for a garden sprayer from Barrs. If so how good does it work? Thanks Steve

I've got one and I really like it. The tank sprayer I purchased does not hold pressure well enough to use a lawn-sprinkler timer but I never really wanted or tried that anyways. Regardless, that's not a fault of the Barr's kit, but rather the quality of the particular sprayer I purchased separately.

The mistheads are very nice. They produce a nice droplet size that is not too small or large. Too small and you only get a mist but no water droplets left behind for drinking (important for many snakes and lizards). Too large of a droplet and you pump a lot of water into your cage only to produce less humidity. Large water droplets are good for some species, but then you have to deal with a lot of standing water. The Barr's produce a droplet size that is good for a variety of species, IMO.

Thanks Chris, To use just the sprayer with out a timer do you just need to get the basic misting kit or did you have to get any other parts? Thanks Steve

I just ordered the basic kit and perhaps some extra mist heads. It was really very easy to assemble. Dip all the hoses in hot water and the slide on much easier.

Steve,

Be sure to get the separate piece that will allow you to connect a sprinkler timer to the misting lines. I neglected to purchase that when I got my BARRS kit and I had to cobble together a few fittings from the plumbing isle at the hardware store. It wasn't a big deal but the little $4.00 piece they sell is a cleaner looking, less hassle alternative. Also, I'd recommend at least a 2.5 gallon sprayer. Don't be surprised if you have to pump it daily to keep adequate pressure, depending on how many nozzles you run vs. how many cycles per day. Scroll up to read another post of mine regarding the BARRS kits and using electric misting pumps with them.
