Is this Cage Suitable?

chameleon2005 Jan 15, 2004 08:31 AM

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately I am having to part with my Veiled Chameleon due to working commitments and I am wondering if you`s think that My Cham`s old cage is suitable for my 5ft Jungle Carpet?
The cage is a hand built, all wooden viv with sliding glass front doors and has a large well secured mesh panel at the back for ventilation, The cage is 4 foot long 4 foot tall and 18" front to back!

Any Input is as always gratefully apprectaited!

Phil

It's a tad bit thin, but has extra height. I think a male jungle would do fine in a cage like that...very nice placement of the flora as well.

Nice cage. I would replace the back mess with something else. For a cage that large its hard enough to maintain temp & Humidity and with a mess back your making it almost impossible to do.

IMO.......

Maintaining the heat and humidity is easier than most think!

On top of the tank is a 100w spotlamp and a 2ft heatmat flat on the bottom of the cage. Also on the bottom is a water dish(will be greatly increased when the carpet goes in!) and that sits half on the heat mat side which creates the humidity well and because of the mesh, it is NEVER stagnant air and as long as i obviously put fresh water in daily and give it a spray every day or so i can keep the humidity around 70-80% all year round.
The Temp is variable because of the height it sits around 91Deg at the branches JUST under the light then it gets cooloer at the middle(75Deg) until the heat mat(90Deg)at the bottom radiates more heat upwards (temp guns are fantastic inventions) The cool side sits from 75Deg(day) to 70Deg(night).

I feel that having 2 hot zones allows the animals far more options for basking or having a hot hide and the same appllies to the other side!

Anyway Just My opinion!

Thanks for the replies any others are more then welcome!
