UVB and plastic wrap

spycspider Jan 15, 2004 09:18 AM

Hi,

Does anyone know how much UVB gets filtered by let's say saran wrap or a plastic cover...as opposed to glass?
Thanks.

Johnny

supposedly there is decent transmission of UVb through p;astic wrap. Many vivarium keepers use it. Ask this question on the dart frog or gecko forums.
Or go to:
vivarium group at yahoo
and search throug the archives for details. they have discussed it many times there.

If you are really ambitious get a CRC (hand book of Chemistry and Physics) and look up the index of refraction of the material. You may have to go to the Dow website (or even email them) to find out the exact chemical name of the plastic used as the CRC and similar books will list optical porperties only by chemical name and not by generic name or brand name.
