My beardie won't eat crix anymore.

Djfuente Jan 15, 2004 01:41 PM

She's 16" long and she seems to lost interest in eating crickets, she prefers to eat green only. Her staple is turnip greens mixed in with some repcal pellets, but she digs through the pellets to get the greens and avoids the pellets. Is this ok? I am afraid that she is not getting all of the nutrients that she needs.

If she is a year or older then it is good, when they get older you are supposed to feed them more green than bugs. IMO greens have more nutrients anyway.

I don't think she's over a year old yet. I purchased her from a reptile show on Aug31 of last year and she was not much over 6" long at the time. So i figured that maybe she was only a month or two old at the time which makes her only 6-7months old now. She is 16" long and her growth has slowed down considerably. I know she doesn't have coccidia because she hasn't shown any of the symptoms.

It is quite normal for mature beardies to cut back on protein as they have been through their large growth spurts already. On another note it is still important for it to get a complete diet. If your not doing so already make sure once a week the salad gets sprinkled with a multi vitamin like Herptivite. Or a complete veggie dust like the Sandfire T-rex bearded dragon veggie maintenance powder can be used every other day to add a lot of healthy nutrients the diet might be lacking. Over-all though this is quite normal, but now more attention has to be made to vary his greens/and veggies.
