Are they just playing!????

rippleyandnemo Jan 15, 2004 04:39 PM

I have a male and female RES. Today Nemo (the male) would get in front of Rippley (the female) and would pull his head into his shell and start like "slapping" her with his "hands" in the head. She would just put her "hand" up and turn her head. Although, she did snap at him once. Is this just a way for them to play?

It's a mating dance.

This activity is done by both males and females and for various reasons. I have seen turtles do it to rocks, fish, other turtles. Sometimes it is associated with mating, and sometimes it is to tell the other turtle theyre not interested.
