Newbie with a Question about a floppy snake>?????

FireDrake Jan 15, 2004 06:19 PM

Hi, I actually not new to snakes, just kings, I have corns, boas a ball and a bull. I just got a California King from CoRHS (Colorado Reptile Humane Society) he, or she is very nice, very tame, but I have noticed, very floppy. Sometimes he acts like he has little muscle tone. Eats, slithers, sheds and rights himself just fine. I took him to the vet yesterday and she said she thought he was fine, just very calm. BUT she did say there is a possibility he could have IBD. Now, I thought IBD was a boid disease. Does anyone know how common this is in colubrids? I really like him, he's very pretty and nice, I'd hate to loose him.

Thanks
FireDrake

Hey Firedrake!

First of all, that is a beautiful snake! WOW!

The snake does seem a little heavy in the pic. In my opinion, there is a chance that if it is too heavy, that could be the reason. I have seen snakes, cal kings in particular, that were heavy and did seem to flop around.

Also, if the snake is too heavy, consider putting it on a diet. What is the feeding regimen you have for the snake?

Awesome cal king! Take care!
