i suspect most 400 gram hondos are going to be at least 3 1/2 feet long anyway, except for maybe a few 3-foot females that have packed on weight during the breeding process.

btw, that 400 grams is a nice weight to shoot for going into brumation the winter preceding a breeding season. the females that come out of brumation ready to breed will add up to 50% body weight by the time they've shed twice, so they'll be 500 grams by the time you're putting them with males. Lighter females CAN breed--every once in a while someone shows me a female I'd have thought was too small to breed and they tell me she bred the previous season, so there are no absolutes in this analysis.
