Strange Question

sbshortie Jan 15, 2004 07:25 PM

LOL Let me start by saying I don't know what that hangy thing on their chins is called. I am gonna call it a dewlap for lack of a better word. So anyway....tonight Bam Bam's dewlap thing kept getting bigger and smaller and I actually thought he was going to throw up but then all of a sudden his whole middle kinda inflated like a balloon. He has been kinda inflated like this once per day or whatever recently. Do you guys know anything about this????

Thanks!
Becca

I have seen mine do something like that when they are about to shed. I think it will make the old skin get more lose.

You know that's interesting....because he just shed a few days ago but I also noticed that there is still some gray or whatever on his back like the skin is going to crack again....very interesting...

I actually watched my male lakoda last week, expand his body and contract it several times.
And before I was done cleaning in there, the shed skin split open, it was quite interesting.
They know exactly what to do ! (without our help )

Hey all,

I was wondering if it was okay to help them shed on occasion... sometimes... when Dexter seems to be really struggling with a peice... I will take him out and gently pull it off for him... I hate to see him struggle too much... I wonder if they realize that is helping them and it makes them feel better or if they think it is just a big giant manhandling him.... has there been any research on lizards to know if they have a cognitive memory?

skin, you can cause problems doing that. If it was still attached even in a small area, when you pull what you think is loose, can cause sore, or maybe scarring.

If you want to help, because I to sometimes see them looking uncomfortable, just mist them with a sprayer(filled with water) they dont enjoy it, usually.

But it does help, and comes off quicker.
