garter pics

These are some photos of the garter I was trying to describe earlier. For this area, it's very good-looking. There seem to be three color phases locally. THere are the plain ones with dark sides and light stripes, there are greenish tinted ones, and there are lighter ones. This is one of the latter, and a particularly pretty one. Let me know what you think.

Looks erythristic. What state are you in?Most I know of were found in southern states. How many did you find?

I live in Lebanon County, PA. If it was erythryistic, it was just slightly so. In certain lights it looked very reddish, and in other lights, it looked more brown. The area just above it's belly was the reddest part. When I first saw it, it caught me by surprise. I was looking for garters, but I was walking along one of our fences to get to a rock pile. I was still a long way off when this thing shot away from me and tried going into a cornfield. Luckily for me, the corn was only about an inch tall. I'm really starting to wish I hadn't released that snake. I've seen some baby garters around locally that looked like it, very reddish brown. Maybe this spring I'll find some more like it. Here's another pic of it.

I think it looks kind of hypo. What would you call this morph, and if i find another one, what could its offspring be worth? I've seen plenty of babies in the area that look sorta like this, some are really cleanly and prettily marked. There seems to be about a 2:1 ratio of normal:reddish garter snakes. Also, the brownish ones seem to have a larger average size than the typical black phase.
