Heat Lights for Pacmans

clickman Jan 15, 2004 09:58 PM

I've heard alot of contradicting statements over this... Is it OK to use heat lamps for pacmans? Some places say they're fine, others say they'll dry them out. What's the deal with this? I'd rather not find out the hard way... Also, anyone know where I can order just small panes of glass, to cover most of my 10g to retain humidity? I have a 3:1 sphagnum mossrganic potting soil mix for substrate, and even with misting it dries out by the time I get home around three with misting, since it only has a screen lid.

NO HEAT LAMPS PLZZ
VERY FEW FROGS CAN HANDLE THAT KIND OF HEAT

It's not so much the heat. I'm using a low wattage bulb so it just barely hits 85 max. Or is it something more than that?

It is not. Barely hitting 85 is a pretty good temp if there is a small drop at night. It is especially good for those young pyxies that are just starting to really grow. And yes, heat lamps are fine to use (check my post below).

What are you talking about? Heat lamps can be so weak you can barely feel them. Heat lamps are the BEST way to heat the frog. When in nature do you have heat coming from the bottom of the tank like you do with an undertank heater? Please make sure you know what you are talking about before you answer a question like that.

Apparently a heck of a lot ! Andy I commend you (frog man) LOL

Andy just had to say this. I have observed you and your posts for a while. You not only are passionate about your hobby, but dang knowledgeable.

Your info is usually right on, (usually, heheh kidding)

Anyway, older people, sometimes feel as though the younger people lack experience and knowledge. I think this kid, (young MAN)
is one who can be taken quite seriously ! Hope you do something with it career wise, one day !

I'm an older, (but nicer ) person, who would like to say that knowledge and wisdom don't always come with age.

I would like to thank you, for your info and posts, your a good kid, and I appreciate you ! I learn not only from my elders, but have always learned from my kids, and other kids as well.

I have learned alot just about my baby pyxie, just from you !

Thank you , (don't get cocky now, LMAO)

I much appreciate it! Except for the 16 year old part. I will be turning "legal" in about 2 months. Ladies on the board...watch out haha. Just kidding. But thank you for the kind words! And good luck with your pyxie...that one is a keeper if I have ever seen one! Andy

Well, heat lamps are not always bad, and will not always fry your frog. You can hang the heat lamp above your tank to achieve a less direct heat!
