******* MY NEW HYBRID *********

blue_tegu Jan 15, 2004 10:01 PM

Hey guys, here she is at the store. I'm 99% sure I'm going back to buy her tommorow. Have been trying to negotiate a price. She came from Miami and is said to be 4 years old. They claim she's a red x blue but there's absolutely no way and someone else who works there told me it's a b&w x red cross. She's got great temprament and loves to sit still and be pet. Ron and everyone else, any thoughts as to what exaxctly she is?

THANKS

Chris, Amika, and the Hybrid

from what i understand some black and white tegus have the orange underbelly naturally. there is a big chance that its not a hybrid, just a b/w with a particularly striking underbelly. it is very attractive but i do not believe that it is a hybrid.

My honest opinion. Its a beautiful animal. But it looks just like one of the many imported B&W Tegus out of Paraguay. Its certainly a good one if it is. The story the pet shop gave you also sounds somewhat fishy.

To the best of my knowledge the first hybrid tegus of any kind were produced 3 years ago by a guy in Texas. His were blue x red and to date I have never heard or seen any other types of hybrids. Of course I am running from memory here and I could be incorrect. That doesnt mean that what you have is not a hybrid as it is certainly possible that I may have missed hearing about them.

John Carlson bred Blue x B&W roughly 4 years ago but 100% of the clutch failed to hatch were fully formed but dead in the shell.

Hmmm...I was kind of worried that she might not be. And is there any real way for me to tell? They're asking $250 for her, which seems a bit suspicious if she really was a rare b&w x red, especially for a female of breeding age. Well I guess what I'd like to know, is there any way to check and do you think she's worth $200, remember she has great temprament.

There is no way to tell. I will say that if you are uncomfortable about buying something you should do what you feel is best.

Is a tame, adult, female of any kind of tegu worth 200.00? Certainly if thats what you are looking for.
