Cheri S. Need your help on Yellow Fungus!

Reptichik Jan 15, 2004 10:12 PM

Or anyone really. I am concerned about this yellow fungus. Peanut was on Antibiotics (Albon) for a short period for coccidia which thankfully was taken care of the first time around. I also gave her some Acidophiliz . Now, both my dragons, Dino and Peanut (who are housed separately) have always had some yellow in them. I have noticed that Dino has started to get some yellow "streaking" down his beard. I know that some dragons do have colorful beards. I have not really seen any yellow on Peanut yet but for her head, which it does not look like fungus, just her coloring. Is there anyway to tell if it is fungus? Does it look like the normal coloring of the dragon, or is it like clumpy looking? The undersides of both dragons are completely white, no yellow spots, but I am having a hard time telling if this is just their color. Dino is a Yellow Sandfire x German Giant, and Peanut is a Sunburst x Red. Any help or even pics would be great (I saw the pics in Reptile Rooms). Thanks

And her cute little face. The spots on her jaw have always been there, they have just kind of brightened up with age. Please tell me what you think. Do you think this is just their natural coloring, or could it be the fungus?

YFD cannot be mistaken for healthy normal coloring, it looks kind of like pureed food thinly layered on the dragons skin. The first time we ever saw it, we actually thought it was dried peaches or something on the dragon, that was 3 years ago I think.

On the lighter areas like the tummy, under tail, vent, chin and mouth area it is very yellow. On the color scales are like the back and head, it is harder to spot as it is darker, but will build up, the skin does not shed properly and when it gets wet in a bath, instead of sliding off like normal shed, it kind of gums up or thickens.

Did you see the pictures on the article on our website, that is a good variety of the various stages of it. I have many more pictures that show various stages that we have collected over the last two years on a private site(unfortunately, but they help others see what it is), we do not make that public due to some of them are in very poor condition, but they are used by Vets and researchers to help identify it or teach others medical personnel about it.

This is the link to the article on our site, soon it may come down as one of the researchers we have been talking to for the past year will be publishing their findings which carry a lot more weight than ours
