justsoftie Jan 15, 2004 11:36 PM

I JUST RESCUED TWO LITTLE TURTLES FROM THIS LITTLE GIRL WHO WAS NOT TAKING CARE OF THEM SO HER MOM GAVE THEM TO ME, ANYS WAYS
I AHEV TRIED TO IDENTIFY THEM BY READINGBUT THESE ARE PRETTY SMALL AND I KEEP READING HOW BIG SOFTIE'S ARE. THE LITTLE GIRL HAD THEM EIGHT MONTHS, BEFORE THAT I HAVE NO IDEA AND NETHER DID SHE. ARE THEY HATCHLINGS? ANYWAYS ONE IS SMALLER THAN THE OTHER,
THEY ARE A OLIVE GREEN COLOR ONE HAS SMALL BLACK DOTS ON SHELL THAT ARE KINDA SCATTERED THE OTHER ONE HAS BIG BLACK DOTS THAT SEEM TO RUN TOGETHER.THEY HAVE A CREAMY WHITE CARPACE. THEY BOTH HAVE LIGHT YELLOWISH BANDS BY THIER EYES AND KINDA DOTTY SKIN.THEY CAME TO ME IN A FIVE GALLON TANK I HAVE SINCE THEN PUT THEM INTO A 20 GALLON TANK, THEY WERE POORLY TAKEN CARE OF THE WATER HAD ONLY BEEN CHANGED TWICE IN THE EIGHT MONTHS THE LITTLE GIRL HAD THEM. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE HEALTHY. THEY EAT OK AND SEEM TO BE MUCH HAPPIER NOW THEY HAVE CLEAN WATER AND MORE ROOM.
WHAT ARE GOOD SIGNS OF BEING HEALTHY AND WHAT ARE NOT SO HEALTHY
SIGNS TO WATCH FOR I REALLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THESE LITTLE GUYS SO ANY INFO I WOULD SO GREATLY APPREICATE. ALSO WATER QUALITY THE PH WHAT SOULD IT BE AT AND WHAT DO I DO TO MAKE THE WATER RIGHT FOR THEM TO LIVE HEALTHY?

Ok I have some stuff to say. For one, don't use Caps Lock when making messages on here, your message was difficult to read. Second, if they are eating they should be fine, are there any injuries on the shell? Or their limbs? Do they have something to burrow in at the bottom of their tank? They need sand if you don't already have it. What are you feeding them? When they are babies you really can't tell the difference from male and female unless you sex them. You said they were small, how big are they?
