Great response with Elk-Deer-Oryx/Croclist

WIKD Jan 16, 2004 12:22 AM

I have had a great respone with feeding "Organic" meats.
I am an avid hunter and ask my local butcher to include
bone chips in a few packs of game to feed to my Gator.
He seems to love it. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this diet? Also, is the croclist down? (I get a returned email every time) I check this forum everyday and there are very few posts. I know there has to be more of us out there, can anyone give me some ideas? Thank you for your time I appreciate it,
Seth T.

Hi Seth,
I wouldn't recomend feeding packaged meat without whole animals as a base diet but as long as whole animals are included it should be great. You probably will not find many hunters on this forum. Most of the people here are VERY opposed to hunting or at best tolerate it. I hope you don't bring a anti hunting tirade down on yourself. That said I hunt as well and I feed squirrels from time to time. Squirrels are the only "Organic" meats beside fish and crayfish I feed though. I and my family eat the "deer meat" and we don't want to share with the caimans! Of course I butcher all my own as it wouldn't be very economical to pay someone to butcher squirrels to feed a caiman. Ironically my name is also Seth.

P.S. Save the livers from larger game. Crocodilians love them.

Seth
I feed my crocodilians tons of supplemental meat. As I have posted numerous times I'm not a hunter but the second largest taxidermy in the country is in my little town. I also have lots of friends who have exotic animals.
In the past I've fed kudu, impala, blackbuck, axis etc. even giraffe (cool to feed your niles giraffe) last week I butcherd a wallaby(a friend lost 5 in a cold front) and fed it to my salts.
Nothing takes the place of whole animals but it's a heck of a lot better than storebought chicken.
Several of mine can eat adult squirrels and I have no problem feeding them roadkill. I can't think of an animal with a less probalamatic digestive system than a croc and personally I've never had any problems.
The coolest thing I ever fed- tiger. It was more of an experiment. While I've fed dozens of dead snakes I was still curious if the strong smell of another top carnivore would prohibit or lessen their feeding response. It did'nt. Apparently to crocodilians meat is meat. D.C.

Croclist is not down, but it moved a few months ago.
