i am no expert but if it is only 8 inches then i am not so sure it is a pac gopher. when my bulls and great basins hatch they are in the teens inch wise and i know that pacifics can get pretty good sized. i am not sure though of what a good price is as i have never looked into getting some of those yet!

I have a hatchiling Pacific gopher just shy of 8" I also have a hatchling Sonoran gopher which only slightly longer.
May be like the yellow tail cribos, while they are the largest of the Drymarchon, when fully grown, they are the smallest as hatchlings.
It would seem clutch and relative egg size are the primary reasons. Specimens which produce large clutches of eggs, tend to produce smaller eggs and hence smaller hatchlings, but what you end up with in 5 years can amaze you.

Hatchling pacific or San Diego gophers go for about $15-$30 at shows in my area (the northeast). Eight inches does sound small to me too.

FYI, if it's wild caught, it's illegal to sell it in CA.

zero unless you have a California Native Reptile and Amphibian Propagation Permit. If you are over 16 years of age you will need a valid California fishing license will you possess it. The value would be higher if you have good locality data.
