keith, kelp and killer snakes.......

dan felice Jan 16, 2004 06:39 AM

making the big move from 'throated' f/t fuzzies to f/t 'unthroated' young adult mice this morning w/ both my [from dean and marc] 03 yt and spilotes. i think they're ready. fuzzies don't seem to be enough to hold them anymore......yesterday the yt actually came out of her hide [an extremely rare sighting] looking for food and spotted one of my cats cleaning itself nearby. she immediately went into the vertical neck and head waving thing......i thought it was pretty cool but the cat was largely unimpressed. he ignored her w/ great disdain and both found other things to do after a minute or so......the 03 spilotes was installed in what amt's to a 40 gallon aboreal tank about 2 months ago thinking that would hold him for maybe close to a year.....Not! i've had asian ratsnakes outgrow everything in sight in short order before but this is ridiculous. he might last the spring in there and possibly less if he starts taking mice today. more updates later.......dannio

Dante,
Happy New year. I received are pair of yearling spilotes from Dean a couple of months ago. The Male is 6ft+(It's a guess because theres no way to get him to sit still in anything close to a straight line). The Female is a little behind, but not far. They will be a handful when they start adding bulk instead of just length. It's a good thing the male is a sweetheart. The female on the other hand...well let's just say I keep the neosporin close at hand :>

Hay Dan anyway you can put up a picture, I'd like to see the Spilotes, thinking of branching out if I can find someone who's stock has a lot of color.

good to hear from you guys! been awhile.....here is some spilotes info for you guys: david, i think that dean may have some 03 tigers left over. not sure though but it may pay to contact him.....i think his stock originates [at least in part] from dan mulleary, who is in CA. his stuff is tops, very high yellow. my 03 strongly resembles dan's breeder male.....mike, i don't know if my tiger bites or not to tell you the truth. i always try to sneak in while he's up in his 'tree tube'. he is a fast learner though.....he used to run and hide when his door opened but now he runs pretty much straight towards me. i think he'll be a pretty calm adult. i've had wc's in the past that learned to accept food from my hand so........no pics yet, no camera. one of my brothers will eventually take one for me and i'll shoot it out.........take care guys, dan

Yeah thats what I found with my male that fuzzies were just snacks. When he eats 2 weanlings it hardly makes a lump in him.
