Anyone ever had a problem with Neodeshas injuring their animals??

kottonmouthking Jan 16, 2004 07:16 AM

I moved my 5 foot female Cuban Boa into a 4 foot Neodesha last night and she seemed to love it. She was cruising all around until I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, I noticed a small trail of blood on the newspaper in one side of the cage. I pulled her out and looked her over real quick, as I was already late for work and didn't notice anything. It's a very small amount of blood but it worried me. Just wondering if something in the cage might have cut her. I've had 3 other snakes in the same cage and they never had any problems.

I also noticed urates on her hide box. I hope she's not bleeding internally or something? I just lost an adult male Surinam 5 days ago. The problems never stop.

Hello, this is just a shot in the dark as I've never worked with the animal your having a problem with. But, I believe some of the pythons will leave small amounts of blood when they're in breeding season(ex.Liasis Fuscus). Of course it's deposited from the cloaca and as I understand it, there is no cause for concern. Now, that is with some pythons, so I'm not sure at all if it may be true for your species of boa. You said you've had other snakes in that cage, maybe she could still pick up pheromones left behind that we can't detect and she is responding accordingly. Like I said, just a shot in the dark as I can't think of anything that would cut your snake in a neodosha. You never found any cuts on her did you? Well, I hope it is nothing. Good luck.

the only thing it could even remotelt hurt themselves on, is the wire mesh vents at top of cage, even then, highly unlikely.

But i have never had a problem.

good luck

My adult female Hog likes to wedge herself between the glass
doors and the panel in the middle of the front of the cage.

She used to be able to fit through, now she jams herself and
bends the middle plastic partition as far is it will go, then
she makes a U turn. So far she hasn't hurt herself or broken
the cage, but I'm worried that it might happen...

She only does it when she REALLY wants to be taken out. I guess
I've got to pay better attention to her. Thanks....tc

No Neo problems to report. I would give the animal a good looking over with special attention to the mouth area. But I don't see how the cage could be that rough or sharp to cause real damage to snake skin. Run your finger around the vent cutouts, across the screens, and across the top of the litter dam just as a precaution. Check the glass doors for chips. Also, check out any cage furniture, artificial plants (they have stiff wire in them) and hidebox you might have in there.

I've never heard of a Neo cage being a problem like that.
