colors of red bloods - questions and pics

apeilia Jun 05, 2003 08:20 PM

Hello - I bought a pair of red bloods last year of unknown origin (the previous owner recieved them in a trade). I was hoping to possibly breed them in the future, unless they came from the same clutch. Is it expected that normal bloods from the same clutch generally have similar coloration?

The colors of mine have been changing quite a bit - one getting darker, one getting lighter...

The lighting in my most recent pics is pretty bad and doesn't show the color difference between the two as well as I had hoped.

Here is the pic I got from the seller (I didn't take this one)

I am not sure how to post these all in one post...

Anyway, here is a picture of them now. They've been problem feeders off and on (the lighter one on the right had to be assist fed) until recently.

here is the darker one - I don't know why the camera made the eyes look cloudy.

The fact that they are from "unknown origin" as well as the feeding problems , would lead me to think that they are not CB.
Like most clutches of most snakes, there is usually differences in patterning, colour, size. etc....
And with bloods, anything is possible.
So, if CB, they very well could be from the same clutch.

Those both look like they will be aewsome adults!
goodluck on getting them feeding regularly.

I guess. In that case, they probably wouldn't be related, which is what I'm hoping for. They were hatchlings when I got them last year and are finally putting on weight. I had tried everything to get both of them feeding regularly (or in the case of one of them, to get it feeding at all) and finally had success a few months ago when I started breeding my own rats. They took live rat pups very readily, which I followed with pre-killed rats. Now they eat regularly and have both taken f/t rats. What a relief! It was getting hard to assist feed the one snake after she started actually putting on some weight.

...and yes, if anyone is curious, I did try everything and she had never eaten. When she got so thin that the skin was hanging off her sides I made the decision to assist feed.

I think I'll take a shot of them outside today if the weather clears up and try to capture their colors better than in the second pic...
