Female Veiled When can she be mated?

Anson Jan 16, 2004 12:25 PM

My 9 month old female veiled just laid an infertile clutch of eggs in December. When is it safe to mate her? How long shoud I wait before she can be safely mated to produce a fertile clutch?

Even if she can produce eggs at this age (and they can at younger ages too) it is better to give her the benefit of a year's (or a full seasonal cycle) worth of growth, nutritional stability. Most chams have pretty much slowed growth to a very low level by then.

I would sugest waiting a month or two untill she has gained all of her strength and weight back from the last clutch.

I do agree that they should not be bred untill 11-12 months of age for their health. soooo waite 2 months

like six months or so because she laid a clutch.
I will probably wait two or three months to be on the safe side.
