Is Silica Sand harmful to monitors? (Urgent)np
a 57 Chevy is particularly harmful to monitors, at least when it runs them over in the road...
anything can be harmful, but no one knows why you are asking, or what you are talking about...

Sorry, I mean As a substrate mixed with clean soil.
I dont think there is a need to be rude here it is just a question and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that silica sand and monitors go together as sand being a substrate for the monitors. As far as the silica sand maybe you can write some of the chemicals ingredients etc.... that are in the sand bag. Maybe read the hazards and go with that....if it says it may be harmful for humans you can probably count on it being harmful to monitors too.....my .02
hope it helps
It really depends on what type of silica sand you are using...
The stuff I use for my aquariums at home are the silica grade sand that is used for powerwashing. It plainly states on the bag that inhalation can and will cause lung irritation AND it can cause eye irritation.
In an aquarium, you at least have the water to hold down the problems, with the monitor, it is all open...
Now, there are different grades, infact, some marine sands, such as Estes Fresh/Marine water sand is non-toxic in all areas.
Although it might be non-toxic, I still wouldn't recommend it.
better to give a goofy answer than want more details?
your "toxicity logic" doesn't make any sense, and you want to complain about me being rude? why?
once you spend some actual time here, maybe you will get it. we go over this again, and again, and again, and again...
this guy posted an "URGENT" question with no context, no real question, and no direction at all. how is anyone supposed to help with any kind of accuracy?
the point is, if you want an answer to a question, you need to provide folks with as much information as possible, so that they can TRY and help.

I am sorry if it looked like I was being rude, I was never trying to be rude. The reason why I posted this was that I was looking through Reptiles Magazine and I saw an ad for substrate and it said "Silica Free" I assumed the Silica was a bad addetive after a saw that. I bought my Silica Sand from a Pet store In the Reptiles section so assumed it was fine, until I saw that ad. I am sorry again if I have caused any trouble. At no time I was trying to be rude, I know that the members of this forum are very knowlagalbe and I ment no disrespect.
the other flavi guy was calling ME rude, that is who i responding to...

"Robyn please explpain to me how it does not make sense.... I was merely saying that if the silicas can be harmful to humans there is a chance of them being harmful to the monitors tell me if I am wrong....Maybe you know something about monitors that we dont where they are superanimals that can withstand anything who knows but you must if my logic about about the silica being harmful makes no sense"" I mean I would not want my animals exposed to a silica substrate if they had the potential of being harmful to myself if ingested or inhaled too much ......hmmm if you ask me that makes sense but then again you have some more insight on the subject since this is more of a comical matter to you....please let us in on the secret.."

"how do you know I do not spend time on here ...I may be on here everyday 3 times a day all days of the week ....who knows do you ? I think I am the only one has the answer to that question Robyn...please I am not trying to make this personal but I see someone post something innocently then they are attacked with sarcasm which in my book is rudeness may not be in your book but it is in mine so just like it is your right to post answers and comments I am posting mine. I wouldnt take the sarcastic answer you gave the person as a positive one. I know youre not a jerk or anything like that but sometimes we come off as rude and what not I have spoken to you via emails and the phone I have some of your animals here so I know youre not an A hole. I mean if are tired of explaining all these quesitons then dont answer them let someone else do it.

Ill leave this alone because I think in general it was a fair question he might be knew and might not be as capable as formulating insightful questions as you might since you have been around for so long.
the point is, if you want an answer to a question, you need to provide folks with as much information as possible, so that they can TRY and help.
I agree with you but new people dont know that and thats where the patience needs to be.. we want to encourage people coming in and asking questions we dont want to discourage them because we are being rude or sarcastic or whatever....
no attack to you Robyn I was just awestruck by the sarcasm its all and i know how frustration over going the same things over and over can be.
hope there are no hard feelings
robyn, tell me if i am wrong.
within context means with what monitors in what enclosure.
i use a sand/sandy loam mix with my pils, kimberlys, argus, flavi argus, goulds flavi, ok, all my monitors. i use this too with my leos.
it has worked out well and we have received good clutches in it.
