Does anyone know how to make a cage to house the lighting in my snakes vivarium, i have phoned every shop local to me and nowhere seems to have any, one shop said if i wanted one i would have to make it myself with chicken wire, I had been puting the light that is situated in the roof of my viv on during the day and then switching it of at night, thing is my corn likes to climb up onto the roof and either uses the light fitting and wraps herself around it ( i posted a pic of her doing this before) or she uses the wires from the lights and swings from them although i have remedied that by taping the wires up into the roof of the viv but since the first time i saw her on the light fitting (the light had not been on) i have not dared to use it but from what i've seen posted on here and on other sites it is better to have light on during the day to boost the colouring of the snake and to provide extra warmth, if anyone can advise me how to make a cage for the light that would be great and if i have to use chicken wire is there a certain size by that i mean the size of the holes in the wire i wouldn't want her getting her head through and then getting stuck in there!!! also she is an amel corn do i need to use red light bulbs so to protect her eyes if so what wattage if not i'll just use the normal bulb that i got with the viv, the viv was a complete set up when i bought it and also has an arcadia uv light that goes right across the top of the viv but i have never used this

Thanks for any help in advance i really would like to start using my lighting again but won't untill i can be sure she can't get near it, my m8s snake was burnt on his head because she didn't have the light caged and i don't want that happening to my corn!!

cheers
emma

I'm not sure about the light in your set up. I would think any light fixture inside the tank would be to hot, not just the bulb. If your light is situated where the snake can not crawl on the fixture itself then they sell a wire mesh at Home Depot or just about any building supply, called hardware cloth. You can get it with 1/4" openings. I use fluker lights on top of all my tanks. The ceramic fixtures get way to hot for a snake. Hope this helps. good luck, Jim
