What the heck did I buy?

ladydragonfox Jan 16, 2004 02:20 PM

I just purchased a lizard. I have a pretty good background of lizard species knowledge, but this thing has got me baffled. It is almost a foot long, but it is all tail. The body is under 2 inches long, and it is about as thick as a pencil. The facial features and body coloration reminds me of an Anole in it's brown coloration and it acts as docile as an anole. The belly is a white in color and it has normal Anole-type scales. It uses it's tail to hang on to things and it almost slithers like a snake. It also flicks out it's tongue which is thin like a snakes and black, but not forked and he licks his lips and face like a leopard gecko. He wasn't expensive and I got him for $5.00, but the store owner had no idea anything about it and I seen it as wise to buy it before he killed it like everything else . I have no pictures. If anyone has any idea what it is or could send me pictures to compare, it would be appreciated. Thanks a lot for any help!

Takydromus sexlineatus. These little guys have a long slender tail several times the length of their body. They are a very neat pet, you keep them the same way you keep a green anole. Does it look like this? They vary between all-brown and brown tinged with green depending on the species/subspecies you happen across in pet stores, which don't know what they carry.
