First Time Shelf Builder

jwalters Jan 16, 2004 03:06 PM

What do ya think? I wanted to use standard 40 gallon breeder tanks because I like how easy it is to clean from the top. However, I figured the bottem tank would be tough to clean, so I got some industrial shelf rollers and designed/made the cabinet below. This is the first time doing anything of the sort. I am a college student so my tools consisted of a hammer screwdriver, drill and tape measure! It even came out level even though I didn't have a level during the build. Took me bout a day and a half to complete. It's really solid.
Work yet to do:
I am going to move the top vivarium to the bottem and mount that light below the top shelf for my corn snake. I am going to put that empty vivarium up top for my ball python.
Mind the messy room!

I currently use critter cage tanks for many of my snakes, HOWEVER, I've been reluctant to use them for my corn snakes simply b/c I've heard there is a high escape probability from them. One of my 20 gallon critter cages, if you provide the slightest pressure will open about 1 cm, give or take a few millimeters. I've never worried since it houses a ball python and there's no chance she'll get out but a corn definately would.

ANY THOUGHTS or EXPERIENCES?

When my corn was a bit smaller, I didn't put him in the 40 gallon breeder take I have shown in the picture. I guess they can get stuck between the screen sliding mechinism and the cage itself. After he was about two and a half feet long I moved him into the big tank. He's never escaped. I have lots of climbing things in his cage too.
Hope this helps..
