>>wow do you have any pics of your snake room
nice king btw
At the moment the snake room consists of two (soon to be three) rooms in our house. There's the enclosed porch that houses the mice, and a few snakes, the living room that has 6, soon to be 8 aquaria, and we'll be putting some in our bedroom too, since we're runninng out of living room shelf space.
We're having a house built in the country, and in addition to the house, which will have a few display cases for snakes that will change occupants from time to time, we're having another structure built that will house both feeders and the majority of the snake collection. Next summer I've decided will be my "year to learn carpentry" and i'm going to make custom racks for snakes, feeders, hatchlings, and some custom display cases for the biggest snakes. Our current load of 22 animals will increase by 8 later this month (hopefully, fingers crossed) when the 8 cal king eggs we have incubating hatch... and by 8 next month when the 8 blotched kingsnake eggs hatch.
When I have the critter house completely customized I'm sure I'll be hanging out in the cages and aquarium forums whilst I learn how to do all the necessary things. One thing that is nice about being a high school teacher, I can spend each summer mastering something new!
Here's a picture of the enclosure I created as a very temporary home for the Tiger Rat we got in the mail yesterday. Sadly she's deformed, but the seller gave us credit towards future snake purchases, and we kept her. I've been told she'll get upwards of 10 feet. At the moment she's just a yearling. And her enclosure is a 15 gallon. I haven't tried to measure her size, as she was blue when she arrived, but when I do I won't be surprised if she is already 3 or more feet long.
