Spotted python questions....

eliotstone Jan 16, 2004 07:13 PM

I just recently aquired a neonate spotted python, and im not totally sure as to the temp. humidity requirments, and any other general info about these snakes would be helpful. I have her in a 50 qt. sterilite with under tank heater on reptibark bedding, a hid box, water dish, and grapewood climbing branch. I have the tank at a constant 80 degrees with a 92 degree basking area. If there is anything else i need to do, let me know
thanks

Spotteds are a pretty hardy species.. Your temps/setup sound fine. I kept a few of them almost exactly like you describe. I had a gradient of 88 degrees on the hot side and around 80 degrees on the cool side and they did great. I kept them on newspaper though, with a nice hide on both sides.

It sounds okay except the size of the enclosure. I would worry it will stress some in the big enclosure. I have my last years Children's in a shoebox and it is just about time to move it up. I guess if yours eats then let it be. But consider that if it doesn't it may be happier in a smaller box for now.
