Swollen Neck Update

FisherCham20 Jan 16, 2004 07:28 PM

I took Bender to the vet today. Vet examined his throat, inside and out. Didn't see any injurys or anything odd. Tounge is working great (saw him nail cricket from a ways away with no problem). The swelling isn't hard at all, very loose. I've been watching him closely the past day and he seems to be able to control the size of it. At times it doesn't look unusual. But then he can make it really big in a flash. He's gained 10 grams in about a month. Eating great, drinking, and everything coming out fine. It was really interesting to see inside of his mouth. So the vet didn't know what/if there was a problem.

no news is good news...for some reason we always think the worst...make a mountain out of a molehill...glad to hear that things are okey dokey

Edema can do this...seems to change from day to day, appear more or less, and to feel soft. After all, it is a collection of fluid not tissue. Some earlier advice given was to cut back a bit on supplements and offer more water. It may take a while to resolve itself. You do want to err on the side of less supplementation than more, as montane species seem to be more sensitive to them than lowland chams. You might change your UVB bulb if it is several months old.

Thanks! I have been misting more often and fixed/moved his dripper. He seems to like this much better. Drinking more than before. I haven't been supplementing in quite a while. I had read that they are more touchy with them. Plus he doesn't like to eat the cricks if they're dusted, even though they are dusted every so slightly. Picky cham. lol He will wait till they clean to dust off of themselves, then dive in. Also I've been steaming up the bathroom and letting him hang out in there for a bit. He really loves that.
