I do not have experience with O. marmorata however, I have heard they are fairly easy to breed. I have had as much success with O. tryoni as I have with O. monilis, if that helps putting things into perspective (which were both fairly easy). I have not had good luck breeding castelnaui though. Whatever, marmorata will probably breed well because they are a hardy species in the wild and captivity. The conditioning I'm about to go into may not be necessary, but it will almost ensure breeding. Remember the drop in photo period, temperature, and humidity (mist only the cooler end every 2 days), just in case. breeding season (for mine has been in September into December). Sometimes Oedura can seem picky of their mate, but do not worry for they will probably come around (give then time). Male Oedura can be rough. Also, females take like 5-7 weeks to lay, try not to be impatient. I have noticed females rush to lay when they remain with the male, laying smaller eggs with a weak shell (mainly in my castelnaui). Provide a tupperware container filled with semi-moist sphagnum moss, with an appropriately-sized hole in the top. It should be about SVL high and wide enough in all directions for her to turn around in. You will know she has laid when seems more moody than before. Incubate at 83 and 65 humidity (not too wet!!!).
Also check with Dragon's Den Herp. they have bred them.

do marbled velvet geckos eat everyday or not and how do i do a photo period thanks

imondesa Jan 18, 2004 03:04 AM

They will most-likely not eat everyday, so try every other day or every two days. Oedura seem to have slower metabolisms in comparison to others. Remember to have atleast a 20 gallon aquarium for the pair. All a photo period is is the amount of light during a "day." So when you cool them in February gradually reduce the hours of light per day. Increase it (again gradually), to get them ready for breeding. Make sure they are full adult size before breeding.

can they be housed together all the time or not thanks bye

Yeah, you can house them together all of the time. You may want to give her a break after the breeding season though, so she can "rest." Personally, if I had a pair of marmorata I would not keep them together ALL year. Reproduction kills all species of animal quicker; male and female (including humans). Drains energy and the subconscious will to live. It is all up to you.
