Hatchling Question

shurkahn Jan 16, 2004 09:54 PM

I recently recieved a Hatchling a little bigger than a Quater and only have a 10 gallon tank. How long can I keep him in this before I put him into a 75 gallon tank

If you have a 75 gallon you could put him in there now. The general rule is that the minimum you need is 10 gallons per inch of turtle. I don't think anyone will tell you a tank is too big. Lucky turtle!

I started my hatchling painted turtle in a 120 gallon. He loved it, and is an excellent swimmer now. These turtles that only have a couple inches of water have to learn how to swim all over again when they graduate to a suitable tank. Here is a photo of him exploring.

Right now I have the Tank filled almost to the top. I will be moving him to a bigger tank once I move just waiting to close on my new house.
