I recently aquired two normal phase corn females. The snakes are wild caught and about 2-3yrs old ( judging from their size and weight). They are 36 to 40 inches in legnth and 220 to 270 grams. I have them in seperate aquariums to quarenteen them as all my other snakes are in the cooler till feb 15th. I never considered wild caught before but I needed a few females to breed with my ghost male as my other ghost females died in november. What is a minimum brumation period I could use for these wild caught females as the male will come out of a 3 month brumation in february? The 3 month quarenteen will end in march. I have been feeding them agressively and the vet has them on pancour untill feb 12th for intestinal parisites ( quite common Im told in wild caught animals). once they have a clean bill of health and are eating steadily I'll consider cooling them. Also they are the nastiest, foul tempered, little girls who rattle and strike quite often causing me to keep my hook next to the cages to pick them up and avoid being bitten. I've tried the bold, gentle, and consistent advance approachs to picking them up and counter their threats, but their not bluffing and a bite seem to be a sure thing unless you can divert the biting end away untill your have a hold of them. Anyone who has experience keeping wild caught animals - will they settle down?
Ive had them 3 weeks and handle them every couple of days to try to settle them down, but so far no luck.
Thanks Chris
