concerned...My igs are acting weird(long)

Sam-N-Ella Jan 17, 2004 12:05 AM

I've got a question... I put a new uvb light in the enclosure 2 nights ago. It's the same as what I took out(I sent the old one to Iguanaboy). Today both of them didn't eat much at all. And they stayed almost in the same spot all day. Kinda out of the light. I took the clear plastic cover off that went over the bulb. This was recommended to me by the pet store and it says you can in the instructions. It makes sense because the clear plastic would filter the uvb light. I've changed a lot of things in the enclosure in the past week. I added fake plants which they seemed to like. I put the rabbit food back in for bedding. There didn't seem to be any problem with that. I put a hydrometer in there and it's hard to keep the humidity up. I spray a lot of water and instantly it rises, but it only lasts a little while. The little one doesn't like to be sprayed with water and I've been spraying the cage a lot. She now hides behind the plants a lot. Then I changed the fixture and bulb and that's when they didn't want to eat and they kinda hid. I don't know what it could be. Today the little one Ed(Ella) hid a lot and I didn't see her eat, but I know she is eating just not as much as normal. The bigger one(Sam) is eating , but not even half of what he/she normally eats. I hold the plate up to him and he usually gobbles up a lot of food, but now ha eats a few bites and that's it. Between the 2 of them they eat half of what they normally do. Sam is now not hiding as much. I'm thinking that thy are just getting used to all the changes, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions will help. Thanks. Oh one other thing... ED(Ella) sheds about every 1 to 1-1/2 weeks. Is that normal? She is maybe 10 months old. Thanks

I'd think they are getting used to all the changes to their enclosure. Give them another week at least to settle in if you've made alot of changes for sure. As for the shedding, welcome to the world of growing igs, Tempest shed non-stop once he settled in and started eating, and kept it up for months. I figure he was shedding his whole body every 3 weeks. He's just gone through another 5, yes 5, sheds in a row since moving him upstairs into his new enclosure, and everyone says how much bigger he looks. Give them time, they'll settle down.
