Excessive MV Bulb use

alreynolds2003 Jan 17, 2004 12:55 AM

Hello guys,

I am glad to have noticed a post on duration of MVB usage... I have had it appx 6-8 inches away from basking spot, what is the max I should be using it in a day and is it better to have it on during one part of the day as opposed to another. For instance, do chams like to bask mores in the evening or morning? Any information on this matter would be of great appreciation in advance!

Thanks guys, I don't know what I would do without this place!

See if there are directions on it. I think 6 - 8 inches may be too close for most of them. If it is a flood I think the minimum distance it should be from the animal is around 11 inches and if it is a spot light the minimum is more like 18-24 inches. It should really be used more for light than heat so you need a basking light also but make sure the combined temps are not too hot.
Chameleons usually like to bask in morning sun. I keep mine on for four hours a day but if your animal has MBD maybe more like six to eight hours.
Hope I helped
