Hi All,

We have 3 Bufo Americanus and we would like to try breeding them. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience or suggestions. If so, please email me directly at: toadilytoads@yahoo.com

Of our 3, we have 2 females and 1 male. The female, Woodstock is the oldest one and she seems to have no interest in being mounted by the male, Tiny. Our younger female, Kisco, does let him mount her and usually doesn't protest right away.

Right now, Kisco and Tiny are in psuedo-hybernation mode inside their rock cave and have been fairly inactive. We keep the bedroom they're in cool. The temperature ranges from 64 down to 54 or so. Woodstock is not in the cave usually, but she burrows in soil outside the cave, where she is as we speak. Only her two eyes are sticking out.

We live in upstate, NY. We beleive they would probably be breeding in this area around late March into April and May, depending on if we get an early, warmer spring or not.

We had thought to set up a seperate tank for them to breed in, by giving them water, with a fish tank heater and filter with gentle filtration and have grasslike fishtank plants on the bottom. Tiny does "sing" sometimes and last month, in mid-December, he sang on a warm day and then I saw him jump onto Kisco, where he stayed a good 2 hours, but they are always on land. I took pictures and posted them to a gallery on our website:

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. We would love to have baby toadlets and even be able to let some live in our forth-coming vegetable garden.

Thanks.
Chrysta
