blk/white cal king

janome Jan 17, 2004 06:59 AM

I saw a black and white cal king snake at a local Petco. Before you all go nuts with the Petco debate..I bought a corn from this same store and she is a year old now and in good health from the day I bought her. They have a cute litte blk/white cal king I was thinking about buying for $70. How are their temperments as far a handling, feeding, etc? Do they make a nice pet? All my snakes are just pets. Thanks...J

I got my cali king at petco because I have no idea where else I could get a snake. Has anyone heard of shows that come to Oregon? I've tried looking online but I can never find anything. My state's always overlooked >.

i just recently got a black nd white cal king...he is really calm when i handle him but when it comes to food things quickly change as with all snakes tho..my cal king is really calm and doesnt seem to mind being handled or anything like that i only almost got bit one time but it was a feeding mistake on my part and luckily i pulled my hand away and he just knicked me heh yeah i would say they are pretty good pets tho

I got my cal king for $25 and she's perfectly healthy to. Main reason I don't buy herps at the shops is because of the price.

I know $70 is high price but when you don't have reptile shows where you live (Arizona) it's hard to go to them. We have maybe 1 or 2 a year and they are very small. Like 1000 sq feet if that. There is a show coming in March to Mesa, Az I'm going to check out.
Another thing about cal king care...are they simular in caring for to corns? I have 2 corns already and they are very low maintance.

Hi,

actually king snakes are pretty much identical to corn snakes in terms of care. I have a gorgeous Banded Cal king and she's got an amazing temprament. From everything I've ever been told they require the same temperature, humidity, feeeding, etc. The only real differences are in their behaviour (i.e. they'd eat until they puked if you let them). I've had to leave mine at home in England while I move to Japan for a year or two ( $70 sounds about the same as shops in Britain but if you can get to a show it'd probably be worth it.

Here is mine venus. Her initial is on her head/neck area. She has a lot of white. I paid 50$ for her as a yearling. I'm trying to get her big enough to breed to my old albino male by next year. She helps out by eating all the mice I give her.

Hi!

Usually they make great pets.
They are very beautifful (in my opinion off course), rather calm and tame. Feeding without problems, and additionally very "forgiving" I would say.
They are also not so big, so you can have almost perfect pet - it just need some time to tame them.

Best regards
