Mazuri food

kameronb Jun 05, 2003 09:48 PM

Does anyone out there feed Mazuri tortoise diet? Is it worth buying and feeding? I know Mazuri foods are great quality, but this diet says it was formulated for galapagos tortoises. Would it be good for leopards and/or red-foot or other tortoises as well?

I've used Mazuri for years with my redfoots, sulcatas, indian stars, and a few others. I usually alternate feedings with Mazuri one time, fresh fruits and veggies the next. I've had no problems with it and the redfoots are currently breeding up a storm. I think the key to any tortoise diet is VARIETY VARIETY VARIETY.

I think you are going to get a lot of mixed answers on this question. I personally don't give my leopard torts any Mazuri food, strictly weeds, grasses & some grocery greens from time-to-time. I know many people have good experiences with the Mazuri food on their leopards I just don't use it myself. Just my 2 cents.

I feed everyother day to my leopards, hermanns and marginatas and they are all striving!
If the zoos trust it ... I trust it.
Also feed to the turtle mazuri pellets to my turtles.

go to a feed store that has purina foods (or maybe a pet store). Mazuri is owned by purina and they can usually get the food in an order of their purina foods. Two feed stores and one pet store have said they will do this if I ask and pay for the bag ahead of time. There is no shipping charge this way.

I feed Teddy Mazuri usually 5-6 times a week and he likes to have
it as a snack before bed now too a little bit. He's been getting
it since he was 1 1/2 yrs. old. I order the 25 pound bags that
my feed store gets for me and it's like $13 or something. I freeze
much of it (I'm only on my third bag - it's a lot of food!).
I used to feed it to him after soaking it for a few seconds in
very warm water then draining it. Now he just eats it dry.
It's easy to scrape calcium onto (cuttlebone). Ideally your torts
would just graze, but if you want to supplement with greens and
mazuri it really helps. Be aware that some tortoises might not
like it and won't eat it, this may happen possibly with the redfoots.
Worth trying though.
