??MITES & MORE??

SPIDERCREW Jan 17, 2004 11:27 AM

I HAD A MITE PROBLEM WAY BACK IN OCTOBER IN ALBINO BURM EBCLOSURE... I GOT RID OF THEM EASILY USING THE SEVIN DUST & SOAKING EVERYTHING & CLEANING THE TANK AS SUPPOSED TO DO ETC.. MY QUESTION IS THAT I HAVE 2 WOOD PIECES SITTING OUTSIDE SINCE THEN... I AM HERE IN NY, SO IT HAS BEEN SUB-ZERO WEATHER MANY MANY DAYS/WEEKS & WAS THINKING THAT THE MITES HAVE LONG DIED OFF.. I KNOW THEY LIVE OFF THE SNAKES BLOOD SO I DON'T THINK THEY CAN SURVIVE FOR MONTHS OUTSIDE IN THE FREEZING WEATHER... THERE IA 1 EXPENSIVE PIECE OF WOOD I WANNA PUT BACK IN THERE... POSSIBLE??

Just get a can or two of pro products provent a mite spray. It is by far and away the best product on the market and it is certainly the easiest way to get rid of these parasites.

I ERADICATED THE MITES EASILY IN A DAY USING SEVIN-DUST.. I AM NOW WONDERING IF THE WOOD THAT HAS BEEN OUTSIDE IN THE FREEZING COLD SINCE OCTOBER IS SAFE TO PUT BACK IN THE ENCLOSURE, WHICH BY NOW I AM 99% SURE IT IS, BUT BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY..

sorry to say, sevin dust is not a real good treatment for mites...and can be lethal to a burm. you may have taken care of the mites in the cage, for now, but mites leave the host (and cage), lay their eggs elsewhere, and come back to the host; can be a real irritating an ongoing problem. Eggs have also been known to survive for periods of time in severe temps so I would still treat the cage although the freezing temps probably killed most if not all of them.
