Snake Poo!

t-bo Jan 17, 2004 02:12 PM

Ive only had my RP 12 days, its fed once and I am gonna offer it food again tonight. My question is regarding the frequency of poo(I dont seem to be able to find anything on the 100's care sheets ive read).

Do they usualy 'go' once a week, same or similar sort of frequency as their meal ?

When should I be concerned about the lack of poo?

Thanks for info.

mine poops every 2 weeks to 3 weeks. It depends on how much you feed it. I feed my girl a medium rat once per week. After 2 or 3 feedings he ass is bulging and generally opens up within a day or to. First come the urates, then the big turd that smells like death. That stuff is worse than roadkill.

the BP should 'Poo' a couple days after eating it all depends on how much they they eat and when if they dont eat for 2 weeks then you wont get poo until a few days after eating

yo thats wrong. BPs dont take a crap 2 days after eating...try
1-3 weeks.

There's something about small fuzzy rodents and a primitive digestive system. Smells like, um, I don't know, some kind of ungodly horror? Yeah that's about right.

But it's oh so good to know that your critter is healthy. And with bp's, an ungodly horror of a bowel movement is healthy. : )

my snake had parasites. Now it looks like a log of only hair and the only thing that really seems to smell are the urates. Am I just imagining this or is it a sign I'm doing something wrong?

Either that or I do. I'm gonna pay closer attention and see if I don't have it mixed up.

Good Thing you asked this. I was wondering too. Also - I see the word "urates" and have read about snake urine actually being solid. I've seen that with my BP too. However, I also see liquid with the poop. Is that pee too? Is that normal? Oh and in my experience, I know when he has pooped the minute I open the door to the apartment (and he is in the room furthest from the door). It is HORRIBLE, but it definitely ensures that I don't leave it sitting in the tank for more than 30 seconds! Clean up tip--I turn a Ziploc bag inside out & put it over my hand. Then I can pick it up, turn the bag right-side-out and seal the bag asap!

My balls do make quite a stink when they poop, but my boyfriend has bearded dragons..now they have bad smelling feces lol! My balls do not have a horrible odor, but it is very noticable and enough to make me clean out their whole entire cage searching for the source lol (not the humidity box again!). Anyways, snakes excrete something called uric acid...aka the white junk. The whole purpose of excreting uric acid over urea (what our pee is called) is to conserve water. When there is extra water in your snakes system that his/her body doesn't use they will excrete that also...so that is the liquid that comes out with the white stuff!
Fun fun
Have a great Friday guys!
