LOL, I have been bitten by Russians. When they are hibernating they tend to be testy when you disturb then. I have been bitten changing the water a few times.
And I always take the little wood pieces off before they go in. Althought I have seen them eat woodchips without any problem.

I feed most of mine right on the aspen, although I sort of hold the prey up with the hemostats until the snake has a good part of it down. When they slam it away from me and roll it around,
I manage to (usually) get the crap off before it goes down. No problems here, either.
