Hissing Sonoran Gopher!

nycsnakehandler Jan 17, 2004 02:26 PM

I got a Sonoran one week ago today...all week he has been fantastic. Very handlable and eats like a savage. I went into the tank today to try and take him out and he started to hiss with mouth agape. I probably should not have went in there because for some reason he seemed agitated but I didn't think he would hiss. My question is will he also do that now, did I ruin his gentle demeanor? Also, if he does keep doing it should I ignore it, I heard they stop the defensive posturing when off their bellies? This is a great animal and how i have not destroyed his calm nature.

It's usually a bluff if he's like my Pit. If mine's in a bad mood, I'll usually pick him up anyway so he doesn't think he can get away with that. I minimize how long I have him out if he's ornery though. Good luck.
