New Suri pics and a question....

Simbo Jan 17, 2004 02:36 PM

Here are a few pictures of my male Suriname that I took this afternoon. He just shed a couple of days ago and he is showing some excellent color (that I failed to capture in the photos).
Well, the shed wasn't quite perfect... he retained one of his eye caps. My question is this: does anyone have a tricks to remove the eye cap? After several soaking sessions I have rubbed the eye gently with some water and soft gauze, but it isn't coming off. Do I just need to be more patient and keep doing that or is there a 'secret' trick that I don't know about. I have heard of people using mineral oil to remove eye caps, but I'm not sure about that. Please let me know if there is anything you have done successfully in the past. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Here is a head shot that shows the retained cap:

Hey Eric, try a q-tip, put warm water on it and roll the q-tip. Just be real gentle, this has worked for me before. Roll the q-tip in your fingers gently against the cap. It may work for ya.

I got it off after I soaked him in a very humid rubbermaid. After soaking about an hour the gauze peeled it off slowly.
Thanks alot for your help, both of you.
