Help with shedding eyecaps

cowtownherper Jan 17, 2004 02:49 PM

I'm babysitting a ball python a friend of mine bought his daughter for christmas. When I got him his skin was in pieces. I've gotten all of it off except the eye caps. Poor thing can't see a thing. Should I try to remove them or just wait until the next shed? Thanks, Jim

Might try one of the ideas below under "Help, please!"
I'm pretty sure you don't want to let those eye caps stay on too long. A broken tail tip is one thing...blindness sucks!

Ball pythons are notorius for retaining eyecaps.Like marcel posted below.I use a wet pillowcase and i put the snake in it overnight and i make sure the enclosure stays warm.If it hasnt come off by morning you can try to lightly peel it off with your fingernail. As a last resort i use scotch tape to remove it.You have to be careful either way or you can injure your snakes eye.If you cant get it take it to a vet...Paul.

We've had excellent luck several times with using a small piece of masking tape to get them off.
