Need help heating a cage

redmoon Jan 17, 2004 06:27 PM

I have a large cage(22.5"x23.5"x36"H) that i want to put one of my JCPs in. Three sides are double paned glass which were left over from a construction job(i got the cage for free from someone my mom used to work for), one side is wood, and the top and bottom are wood. I glued a sheet of plastic to the wood on the bottom and sealed all the corners to waterproof it. I blocked up one vent, and put weather strips around the lid, so air cant get out through there.

Problem is, i cant get it to warm up. With a 100 watt bulb on top of it, it's only 6 degrees warmer than room temperature(room temp varies from 68-72).

Anyone have an ideas? I'd like to use a heat pad, but i cant use one on carpet, and the plywood on the bottom may be too thick for the head to spread through.

thanks
Ron Nocera

If I kept JCP's I'd use radiant heat panels, either Helix or ProProducts. Their semi-arboreal nature is perfect for these panels.

Since your cage is pretty tall you might still want some floor heat. Read my post just a couple of lines down about using PVC over a cutout in the floor.

This will raise the heatpad off the your carpet a bit. Or did you mean you were using carpet for substrate?
