Manzanita and Grape branch questions

wraithy Jan 17, 2004 08:25 PM

I have noticed that everyone that uses these has them sandblasted. Is there a reason why it has to be sandblasted and not natural?

I am trying to get some manzanita or grape brances for my herps (I have to online it since there doesnt seem to be much around the philly area) and I have noticed some dealers have natural (fresh cut) and sandblasted and the blasted ones are much more expensive than the natural.

Any info would be appreciated

We use natural and blasted manzanita.
We use only blasted grapevine.

As I understand it, the bark on grapevine can loosen and be a factor - so it is best sand-blasted. While the manzanita can sometimes lose it's bark after time - I have used it for years with the bark on for both exotic birds and chams. Just trim the small branch nubs smooth - to avoid eye rubbing damage.

We also love crooked willow... great cham highways!!

Hope this helps,

Thanks Morgana and Yosemite!

It's just the answer I was looking for. Now I know what to be on the lookout for.
