what type of top should i get for my enclosure?

mike3 Jan 17, 2004 09:54 PM

I have a 5L x 3W x 2.5H enclosure. I have dirt in it and because there is no top on the cage I get a lot of dust in my room. Since I am tired of the dust I am going to put a top on the cage. I have no clue on what type of top I could use. I need something that holds in dust, heat, and humidity. I also need a top that I can easily see through. Also, if I get a top what should I do with the basking lights? What other problem would I have? So what I am trying to ask is, what would be the best type of top that would fit my and my uros needs. Also, Robyn what type of top do you have on your cage? Are your basking lights in the cage or on top of it?

I believe Robyn uses hinged acrylic tops that are modified to hold the heat domes. By the way, if anyone is planning on building this type of top, I can help with the hinge. I work for a plastics manufacturing co. and one of our stocked items are hinges use with acrylics. Drop me an email if your interested in a sample.

i'm somewhat new to the hobby of uro-keeping but if i'm correct i don't think you're looking to retain humidity. i have a screen top with a towel over top. of course you need to be careful of the bulbs. my plans are to have a piece of acrylic cut to size to fit over this area. good luck. laura

check out our facility (also gilas, monitors) pictures at our site. we use a variety of tops, some wood, some acrylic. just kinda depends on the application.

for the lights, cut out a hole and use some metal screen. if you make the hole much bigger than the lamp, you'll lose alot of humidity. if you make the hole slightly smaller than the circumference of the clip lamp you'll save humidity.

or you can also try some keyless sockets mounted on the underside of the lid.
