bearded dragons in general...

banana Jan 17, 2004 10:13 PM

Hi everyone! I have a kingsnake so I'm usually over on a different forum, but lately I've been getting really into lizards, chams and bearded dragons in particular. I was just wondering the temperament of bearded dragons and how you guys enjoy the ones you have. Also about how much do they cost, and do they sell them at shows? Thanx for caring to share!

The average bearded dragon rates at an 8 on the huggability scale. My blotched kingsnake is only a 7 to give you an idea. They are extremely common at shows and you usually can kind some really killer colors.. yellows, reds, ect. The whole UV lighting plant and bug eating aspect will be a little new to you though.

"The serpent crams itself with animal life that is often warm and vibrant, to prolong an existence in which we detect no joy and no emotion. It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."

If I were you, I'd stay away from chams for a bit. I say that for two reasons:

1) Chams can be stressed fairly easily when handled, and I'm assuming handling is something you want since you're looking into beardies too.
2) Cost considerations. I considered getting one once too, but, their setup is a little bit more costly. (I.E. they need a screen cage, but also a drip system and 50% humidity... So my guess is you'd need a fogger/humidifier.)

But, that's just me

We love our beardies. we are pet people but with beardies it was different. we started with 1 little beardie and now have 24 juvie/adults and recently hatched clutches with 42 babies....so far. Yes they do sell at shows, the price depends on who your buying from and what type of dragon your buying. We've seen them at $30. to $40. and up, sometimes way way up. Shop around, research alot and you will be very happy.
