Radient Panel Size for Boaphile or AP Cage

NCJay Jan 17, 2004 10:34 PM

For those who use radiant heat panels as the sole heat source in plastic cages (boaphile, animal plastics, moonstruck, etc.) - what size panel is adequate for a 48x24x24 cage? Assume that the herp room temps are 70-72 degrees, and that I want a daytime gradient of 90 hot side, 80 cool side. I know there are a lot of other variables here, just looking for a ballpark idea.

Thanks for your input,
Jay

Your best bet would be too email pro-products and tell them your cage info,temps,animal,,etc.. and they will let you know what panel you need and how much.

Thanks for the reply. I'm very shakey on ordering anything from pro products after looking at the pics of the scorched, burned-out panels they made for proexotics (pics and story are on proexotics.com). I was hoping for some users of Helix or Enerjoy to give their $0.02.

WOW, I came across the same thing earlier and thought the same thing BUT I'm realizing that there are two sides to every story and for any product, you can find someone with successes and another with failures with it. Not that I'm giving you advice one way or the other, esp since I have no experience with either...I just keep doing research before making my choice, AND I have been learning TONS of info, esp with help from Chris_Harper.

In the near future I want to build custom cages for my ever growing and already somewhat large collection of snakes and in doing so, I'd like to find the safest way to heat them so I am exploring many ideas/options but I'm still not 100% confident
with everything...I'm just leary of combining heat and wood.

Hi.

The 24" height is going to be an issue. I have a 48 x 30 x 18(h) Neo cage heated with a 12 x 18" radiant heat panel with great results. But tack on that extra 6 inches and the temps will fall. If I had a cage in those dimensions (AP would be my definite choice), I'd get it with the belly heat option and also use a 12 x 18" panel. This way I could control the heat sources and get the temps I want.
