here is before/after pics of suzie.. my lil runt of a water dragon.. back in june he was not eating, having trouble shedding, and had mouth rot. now six months later he is almost as good as he will get.

suz back in june.

suz cage now

(sorry about the reflections on the cage glass)

he has a long ways to go ..but considering it has taken me and 4 vets to get him this far ...he can only get better...he is now 17'' long and over 100 grams..and i am happy to say he will be 4 in feb. (approx)

zimbo Jan 18, 2004 04:57 PM

my smaller dragon zimbo has a bad case of rot, is reluctant to eat, and looks exactly like yours. weve been to several vets, and zimbo has taken antibiotics and glucocal like crazy. his brother, houdini, is thriving and has gotten huge but zim hasnt really been getting better. he also has some kind of eye infection so he wont open his eyes unless im giving him a bath.
we bathe him every day, and try to coax his mouth open enough to stick a worm or cricket in, but this takes hours, and sometimes is unsucessfull. we go back to the vet in a few days, but i was hoping maybe you had some advice. our new vet is really the best in my state, but that doesnt seem to be enough.
if anyone has any suggestions on what to feed him, or how to get him to eat, please reply. thanks, sorry this was so long.

has the vet found out if your dealing with stage mouth rot 1 or 2? mouth rot one is just a localized infection and mouth rot 2 is an internal infection that causes the sores. once your have found out the trigger infection it is much easier to treat. my suz is going on 4 years and i have been struggling with the mouth rot coming and going for a long time. but thanks to a wonderful vets office i think it is beat this time. well.... suz has a lot of palat damage in her mouth and so she no longer can handle crickets or big worms. so she gets small supers, mealies, cut up nightcrawlers, and a vitamin/veggie/protien slurry. when she was really bad i gently coaxed a freshly shedded mealie in her mouth ever once and awhile and then sryinge fed her that slurry. also are you cleaning out your wd's mouth??? i used to clean the crude ever so GENTLY out of her mouth and then put some novalsan on it. suz has gotten really close to me the last few years.. has never bitten me ..always lets me clean her mouth or give meds ..on top of the mourh rot.. when i rescued her she was under 10'' stl and has a uri , mouth rot, and was failing to thrive.... so don't give up hope... and sorry i don't know much about eye infections.
