Skink no longer on the run Need advice, please.

buffysmom Jan 18, 2004 01:31 AM

I found him around midnight tonight, 5 days after he escaped. He was very cold & seems quite stressed, making puffing noises when I come near. I've LOCKED him in his cage w/ fresh food & water, his UTH & the addition of a heat lamp w/ a 40 watt bulb. I figure I need to leave him completely alone for a week or so. He was just so cold & seemed pretty stressed. He doesn't appear injured, although I'm hoping he's not dehydrated. How can I tell if he's dehydrated & is there any solution besides leaving water out for him? Any other suggestions on how best to reacclimate him?

id take him to a vet as quick as possible.

give him a bath, you dont know where he has been, and give him lots of his favorite food and water. but dont leave his light or uth on more then you used to because that would be bad for his metabolism. just leave it the way it was before and hope for the best

I was so worried about him last night, but when I woke up this morning he's warm, has eaten & watered & seems back to his old self. I changed out the water & food. I had to remove him from the towel I'd placed him into the cage with & he calmly let me, so I held him to inspect. He really seems fine. His behavior is back to normal, not looking stressed, not puffing at me, he has not injuries that I can find & he's already climbing the walls looking for an escape route! I've switched back to his timed UV light & plan to leave him pretty much alone for a week or so to help him adjust.
Thank you everyone who replied w/ advice & comfort to my last post! I was pretty worried about him, but took comfort from the stories of other lost & found skinks. I soooo appreciate these forums! You've all been such a help to me & hope to return the favor.
