how does everyone keep their crickets?

nickvree Jan 18, 2004 01:49 AM

once again, as you can probably tell from all the posts I made w/ questions tonite, I'm fairly new at this.

Anyways, I got a 'KricketKeeper' to put my crickets in... needless to say it was worthless and I've found about 15 escapees around my apt. so far... so I bought a Sterilite thing (rubbermaid plastic box... probably 8"x12" and 16" tall w/ a good cover (no places to escape, I hope!)) I plan on putting some egg carten stuff in there so they have more room, and I gutload them w/ Fluker's ORange Cube (water, food, vitamins).

how many do you think I may be able to keep in there, and do they need another source of food and/or water (it seems like it 'dries out' after being in there 12 hours or so...)

and what does everyone else do? realize that I only have one leo, so I don't need thousands of crickets on hand like some of you do I'm sure....

thanx in advance for the advice!

You can keep up to a hundred crickets in said enclosure, at least in my pov. Make sure you provide little airholes for a lil ventilation. Hope this helps, and good luck. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong; because i hold a thousand in a 10 gallon.

One suggestion w/ the rubbermaid: Get some packaging tape, and create a solid line near the top. Some rubbermaids they can climb up, but once they hit the packaging tape they can't climb any further. Press it down every day or two, because if it lifts up a bit they'll get stuck on the packaging tape, and you can't pull them off of that.

I keep crickets, and I am not sure what the container i haev is called. its like a small temporary creature keeper i guess.. its clear, and has a black top that has a clear plastic snapping opening.. and the top has small holes for venilation.. I havent had any trouble at all with mine, i taped over an openings on the cover that could potentially be big enough for a smaller cricket.. I have had no escapees, though i only keep about 30 crix at a time..
